Work Experience

The summer before my sophomore year of college, I interned at the local lifestyle publication Savannah Magazine, where I was able to hone my editorial skills and practice writing and editing. With the publisher as my supervisor, I was able to experience and work on multiple aspects of editorial work: I edited articles for the editor-in-chief, accompanied our multi-media editor on interviews, and assisted on the set of a photo shoot. My internship also gave me an in-depth understanding of the branding aspect of editorial work: my time at the magazine coincided with the production and launch of Southern Coastal Weddings, a new publication and expansion of Savannah Magazine, allowing me to witness and take part in the creation of a brand from the ground up. Creative tasks, such as brainstorming titles, strengthened me as a writer, and fact-checking extensive resource lists and taking part in table-proofing sharpened my eye for detail. Additionally, as the primary contact for our photographers, I became adept and comfortable conducting professional correspondences. My experience at the magazine gave me a real-world understanding of the editorial world, and strengthened me as a writer and as an employee.
